Plot Summary
"You don’t remember where your grandfather lives?”
The last time Yoni had visited the apartment was some years ago, when his grandfather got his Filipino caregiver, and his mother asked him to go over there and make sure the two were getting along. His grandfather was anxious and detached, the caregiver sat in her room, silent and alert. His mother was on an extended trip, and he didn’t want to worry her. On a short call with poor reception, he calmed her down, and said that the two were perfectly fine. This sealed the matter for all parties involved.
On Passover eve, Yoni arrives at his grandfather's home – with his brother-in-law – to pick him up for the family holiday dinner. Soon enough, the two realize that the 90 years old grandfather is missing, along with his Filipino caregiver.
The search after the grandfather unfolds the family's present and past dynamics, highlighting their attempts to keep life unchanged.
Alongside the Israeli plot, the Filipino caregivers’ story takes the readers on a fascinating voyage through a somewhat-transparent community, as they live at the homes of old people and take care of them.
This is a tale about loneliness and belonging, about impossible choices and a cross-continent journey for one shared goal.
